Skin Care

  • My simple in-flight skincare routine

Chances are, if you’re off on holiday this Summer, you’ll be spending a few hours at least on a plane on your way to your destination. As lucky as we are to be jetting of to the sun, your skin is not always left in the best condition, thanks to the recycled air, pressurised environment and, if you’re in it for the long haul, a sleepless night. We all dream of stepping off the plane looking fresh as a daisy, so follow my simple 4 step in-flight routine to keep your skin looking and feeling it’s best.

Step 1. Gently remove any make-up. It’s unlikely that you’re usual in-shower cleanser will be the most practical here, so opt for a Micellar water that will get the job done, with as little mess and faff as possible. Top tip: to avoid having to decant your cleanser into a 100ml bottle, and to make things nice and easy…pre-soak your cotton pads in your Micellar water, so you’re left with a home made wipe, with all the handy benefits, with none of the harsh chemicals. Try Decleor Aroma Cleanse Soothing Micellar Water 400ml.

Step 2. Now that you have a cleansed base, it’s time to top up the hydration level in your skin. The recycled air on-board can be very drying. I would recommend a 2 step process. First, apply a serum or facial oil that will work in the deepest layers of your skin. I love Decleor AROMESSENCE NÉROLI Hydrating oil serum. Just 3 drops will keep your skin hydrated and give you a definite glow on the skin.

Step 3. Next layer your moisturiser on top. You’ll want to go for a hard working moisturiser that will provide maximum hydration throughout the flight. I like to pair Decleor’s Aromessence with their HYDRA FLORAL 24hr Hydrating Light Cream. Although this cream is this light it packs a punch and provides a long-lasting moisturising effect for dehydrated skin. For in-flight sizes of both of these products, try the Decléor Hydrating Starter Kit.

Step 4. Don’t neglect your lips. Your skin will dry out during a flight, and your lips are no exception. No-one wants to start a holiday with sore, chapped lips. Keep them hydrated with a balm such as Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm Hydrate. Apply every hour to replenish dry and irritated lips.

Step 5. Last and by no means least, treat your eyes. This will help you look fresh and awake when you leave the plane. Try Decléor Hydrotenseur Anti Fatique Eye Serum 15ml. This serum is an intense treatment, containing a high proportion of Hyaluronic Acid to rescue the delicate eye contour area. After use, your eyes appear rested, smooth and relaxed, as if after a good night's sleep. Winner winner.

So give this routine a try next time you’re jet setting and notice the results in your skin.

  • The Salon Look Girl Talks About Facial Oils

Facial oils have had a bit of a boom in recent years, with more and more skincare brands launching their own versions. The big question now is, are they worth the hype? Many people wouldn’t dream of putting an oil on their skin for fear of a dreaded breakout. Let me take you through the benefits of facial oils and a quick guide to which type might be best for your skin.

Your skin’s appearance reveals so much about your lifestyle and general health. Essential Oils are particularly effective on the skin thanks to their rebalancing properties.

Surprisingly, Essential Oils have the same molecular structure as our blood, therefore your body can absorb them into the skin to the deepest layer, the dermis. This makes them one of the quickest ingredients to be absorbed into the skin. The rapid absorption of these oils turbo boosts the effectiveness of other products by acting like a magnet and drawing them deeper in the skin to the dermis. By using facial oils, you can get magnified results with your other skincare products.

Amazing stuff. Still not sure if they are right for you? Let’s run through the best oils by skin type to reveal specific benefits to you.  Decleor really are the true experts when it comes to facial oils, with their huge product catalogue of oils for each and every skin concern. I’ll mention their specific oils below.

    For Dehydrated Skin:

Neroli Essential Oil is at the heart of many Decleor products. Known for its benefits to increase hydration levels and improve the complexion of the skin it also leaves skin glowing. Neroli is ideal for those who have a dehydrated skin type or find that skin is lacking lustre and looking dull. Neroli Essential Oil is obtained from fresh flower buds of the bitter orange tree.

    For Fine Lines and Wrinkles:

Decleor Iris Essential Oil has 3 main benefits on the skin. It’s beneficial to target lines and wrinkles and loss of collagen and is suitable for a mature skin type with a skin age of 40+. It increases the quality of the elastin fibers and helps boost on cell renewal.

    For Sensitive Skin:

Essential Oil of Damascena Rose is proven to strengthen the skins protection barrier. This makes it the ideal ingredient to use if your skin is suffering with sensitivity (through hormones, pregnancy, stress etc) or if you notice that your skin type needs calming and soothing due to adult acne or rosacea. Rose oil helps to relieve sensitivity, soothe and calm the skin and reduce redness and inflammation whilst building the skin’s tolerance.

    Very Dry Skin:

Marjoram is the Essential Oil of choice for those suffering with dry to very dry skin. Due to its natural affinity with the skin, it can penetrate into the dermis and influence the genes of the skin. Marjoram encourages your genes to make more lipids (oils) to lubricate, nourish and soften a very dry skin, treating the heart of the skin condition from within.

    Oily and Combination Skin:

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil is clinically proven to help reduce our own oil flow by 20%, limiting surface oiliness and shine. It is 1.5x more effective than salicylic acid to help refine the skin’s texture. It also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties to deeply cleanse the skin. Contrary to popular belief, essential oils are a great treatment for an oily skin type as oil attracts oil (fight fire with fire).

    For Mature Skins:

Magnolia Essential Oil is clinically proven to stimulate your body’s production of collagen, responsible for giving the skin elasticity. Magnolia Oil acts like a support for a more mature skin by helping to hold everything up helping to re shape, re cushion and re densify the skin.

Oils, like all skincare, are very prescriptive. It’s just a case of finding the right oil for you. Appling just 3 drops of an essential oil, like Decleor’s Aromessences, every morning under your moisturiser can make a real change to your skin.

    Xoxo

  • New Product Review – Decleor Micellar Oil

You may have noticed a few new additions to our beauty arsenal with the arrival of luxury beauty brand Decleor. Let me tell you, no one has been more excited about our newest brand partner than me. I’ve always loved the brand due to their aromatherapy roots, but thanks to my persistent acne over the years, I’ve stupidly (I’m mentally kicking myself now) shied away from oil based products.

Now, if you’re an acne sufferer like myself, you know the fear. Oil = grease and grease = spots. Oh how wrong we are. Think about it…healthy skin needs moisture, hydration and nourishment. If you keep using harsh, drying and mattifying products to treat your skin, you’re going to end up in a dehydrated, sensitive skin nightmare. It’s a vicious circle and sometimes it takes a leap of faith to break it.

Enter…Decleor and their new Micellar Oil. As I’ve been banging on about for years, if you don’t crack the cleansing part of your routine, you’re wasting your money on expensive moisturisers as they just won’t be able to do their job properly. Micellar oil contains a unique powerful formulation that stimulates microcirculation and leaves skin deeply cleansed. According to the experts at Decleor, micellar particles work even deeper into the pores, dissolving and dispersing impurities with a specifically formulated complex that gently removes all traces of make-up including waterproof formulas. Once massaged into skin, the fine oil particles kickstart microcirculation to boost radiance leaving the complexion nourished, refreshed and revitalised - perfectly prepped for the next skincare step. To me, that sounds like the perfect cleanser for problem skin, don’t you think?

So I thought, why not? Let’s give it a go.

Now I won’t lie to you (would I ever), when you first change up your skin routine, no matter how incredible the product, your skin will have a bit of a wobbly. Mine certainly did. But I urge you to stick with it as the results are worth it.

I’ve introduced Micellar Oil as my first cleanse at night, and wow does it do its job. Makeup just melts with this stuff and my skin feels so clean and fresh after just one cleanse. It’s also super quick for those of you in a time crunch. I just use 2 pumps and massage into dry skin which starts the process of breaking your makeup down. Then I wet my hands and continue to massage. The oil turns into a more ‘milky’ consistency at this point. Then I just splash my face with cool water to remove. You can also use a damp cleansing cloth if you prefer.

It’s so gentle and effective that I can’t see myself going back. My skin feels nourished and hydrated but at the same time, really clean. Isn’t that what we all want from a cleanser? Plus, it’s helped reduce the sensitivity I was getting on my cheeks. Winner.

Don’t mind me…I’m just off to switch my whole skincare routine over to Decleor.

    10/10

    xoxo
