The super versatile ponytail is every girls best friend. Whether a five-minute fix for work or a glamourous night-time style, the humble ponytail shouldn't be overlooked.

Rock the look:

Low ponytails, like the one sported by Gywneth Paltrow at this years Oscars, are fabulous for a simple yet classic look and can be worn with straight or wavy locks, slicked back or with loose, face-framing hair.

High ponytails can be perfect for adding a touch of glamour and drama to your look and again can be worn for work and drinks and dinner (or even the gym!). Channel Eva Longoria, Nicole Scherzinger and Katy Perry for an alluring red-carpet look. Curl into waves for a retro twist or keep it sleek and straight for a bold statement.

• Ponytails work best with day-old hair. If you are styling with just-washed hair then roughly blow-dry before adding a little of your preferred product for texture, try L'Oreal Play Ball Texture Tonic.
• Accessorize - think clips, headbands, ribbon, statement pieces...

With the Olympic, and now Paralympic, ladies from around the World showcasing their impressive medal-clutching talons over the past couple of months we knew we had to do a post dedicated to nail art.

Whether you spend hours creating intricate designs or cheat with nail wraps there's nothing like a bit of finger bling to add to your look for the weekend.

We loved this post from Grazia on Monday showcasing the best nails on Twitter - the creativity out there is amazing! If you're new to nail art why not start of simple? Use a base colour like True Love from Essie and add a flash of After Sex on the tip - a great twist on the French manicure for Autumn.

Alternatively go Matte on your base colour and add contrasting polka dots for an eye-catching but timeless nail look.
