Nail Care

  • Freshen up your beauty regime

Sick of your same old beauty regime? Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise - yeah, we’ve heard it all before. Why not try something new?

    Beach waves

Here are my top ten tips on how to revamp your beauty regime this year and refresh up your routine:

    1. When you brush your teeth, also brush your lips. This will act as an exfoliator and get rid of any rough dead skin. After, swipe on a tinted lip balm or gloss with SPF, you'll get moisture, protection, and color all at once.
    2. Instead of always using foundation, switch to a tinted moisturiser. It will hydrate and even out your skin tone, plus it’s easier to blend than foundation.
    3. Instead of using a separate concealer, dip a Q-tip into your liquid foundation and tap it on blemishes.
    4. Skip bronzer in the morning and apply a facial self-tanner every few days to give yourself a healthy glow and even out your skin tone.
    5. On mornings when you need a fast eye brightener, trace a creamy nude liner pencil on lower lids, or dip a Q-tip in a light eye shadow and run it under your lower lashes.
    6. Don’t have time to do your hair? No problem, spray some sea salt spray into your just washed locks and scrunch upwards. It will dry quickly and you will have gorgeous natural beach waves.
    7. To boost volume or disguise your greasy roots, zigzag your parting or move it to the opposite side.
    8. Instead of using a cleanser every morning, just splash it with water. Your face doesn't get dirty while you sleep!
    9. Always use shaving gel. It gives you a closer shave so you won't have to use your razor as often, and it's hydrates your skin.
    10. Skip nail polish. Use a buffing block that files, smooths, and shines your nails for that glossy look!

Every once in a while, we all need to switch it up a bit, follow these tips for a natural more beautiful you.

  • Splash some colour into Autumn with the latest nail trends

It’s November, time to leave behind plain colour block nails and catch up with the latest nail trends. This season it’s all about having super groomed, shiny, healthy nails. Once you’ve mastered that, it’s all about the nail art. Personally, I love it. It looks fab and chic regardless of what colour you decide to originally put on your nails.

    Autumn Nail Trends

Before experimenting with nail art, you need to first clean your nails properly and shape them. Start by taking off any old polish with a nail varnish remover that moisturises your cuticles and nails. Try Nailtiques Polish Remover. It keeps your nails in tiptop condition ready for your next fabulous colour.

Then file your nails to any shape you want – square or round.

Give your nails a pre-Christmas glow

After shaping your nails, give them the nutrients that they need! A lot of people miss this part out and put nail varnish on straight away, but it really does help your nails. Try using a gel or hand conditioner. It will instantly hydrate and condition both your nails and cuticles.

Try using Nailtiques Cuticle and Skin Gel. It acts immediately on cuticles and penetrates deep into the skin. (Top tip: it’s also fantastic for cracked cuticles or rough skin; you can also use this on dry skin on your elbows.)

Or you could try Nailtiques Hand Conditioner. Pushing back your cuticles with your fingertips, while massaging until completely absorbed. It instantly rehydrates and conditions both your hands and nails.

    Colour time

Once you have pampered your hands, choose your colour. This season, darker shades are in to add more of an ‘oomph’. Darker shades are also better if you want to try nail art.

At the moment, I love Essie’s Thigh High colour. The shape is delicious and looks fabulous on. Make sure you put two coats on and finish with a topcoat for extra chip resistance.

    You’ll fall ‘Matte-ly’ in love…

Sometimes a girl doesn’t want a high shine finish on her nails, and when that happens you HAVE to try Essie Matte About You.

It transforms your nails from super shiny to a super matte finish. Bang on trend!

    Fashionable fingertips…

After you have picked your colour, why not decorate your nails some more? There are lots of nail art stencils and press ons out at the moment. Below are some examples that I know I’m going to try! Try using nail pens and stick on sequins for the fabulous effect.

  • Beauty bliss for busy feet

My Strictly Beautiful Feet Survival Kit

Guess what the hot topic of conversation is in the salon right now? I’ll give you a clue: it’s punctuated with glitter and gorgeous Russians. Yep, Strictly Come Dancing.

Give yourself a mini-pedicure at home Say hello to baby-soft feet

Now on our fantasy leader board Artem and Pasha score very highly, but so does our receptionist’s guilty pleasure - Anton. Well, who can resist a man with a good sense of humour? Quite frankly, we’re buzzing with excitement and can’t wait for the amazing hairography, makeup and sequin overload that Strictly brings. Oh and the dancing will be fun too.

Essential survival kit for your tootsies

Now I can’t say that I put in the same hours as the Strictly couples do, but I am on my feet all day long. Admittedly I don’t have to wear dancing shoes, but I am dedicated to my heels. So after a day at the salon, I treat my tired feet to some much needed love with my Strictly Beautiful Feet Survival Kit.

    Hot footin’ it

This is complete beauty bliss for busy feet, a mini pedi at home, if you like. So what does it involve? Well, first things first: rehydration. For me it’s either a nice cuppa or a cheeky glass of wine. For my feet it’s a lovely long soak in a foot bath with a spoonful of Essie Spa Marine Sea Salts. It’s the perfect excuse to sit back and catch up with the Strictly gossip on It Takes Two, whilst the essential oils soothe my soles into soft submission. Doesn’t Zoe Ball’s hair always look fab?

Don’t laugh, but I have been known to roll a tennis ball back and forth using the soles of my feet. Obviously whilst sat down, because that’s just asking for trouble. Anyway, it really helps to massage the muscles in my feet which tighten up and cause them to ache. Go on, give it a go.

    Legs elevens

What else? I often pamper my pins and tootsies with an Essie Spa Hydro-Masque. Not that I’m greedy, but I apply a generous amount from my knees all the way down to my toes. Then I get busy with the plastic wrap and finally cover them with a warm towel.

Yep, I’m in heaven and so are my hard working feet, thanks to rejuvenating aloe vera and stimulating peppermint oil. This brilliant pick-me-up for my legs and feet also allows me to continue my sofa-surfing for at least another 10-15 minutes with some energising chocolate. Shh, don’t tell anyone. Then I simply rinse off with warm water and dry thoroughly. Let’s just say the results are enough to pickle Len Goodman’s walnuts.

    Avoiding a dance floor disaster

The summer may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean my heels aren’t on display. And believe me they haven’t always been so pretty, just ask my BFF. She told me about Nailtiques Avocado Foot Crème and how its rich avocado oil would heal my dry skin. How very dare she! I have a sneaky suspicion she was fed up with my constant moaning.

For results worthy of a 10 from Craig Revel Horwood, I soak my feet in warm water for 5 minutes, and then remove any excess dry skin with a foot file before applying the crème. Ooh I almost forgot, it’s also great to use on your legs and hands too. Bonus, another must-have versatile beauty product.

    The finishing touches

A dab of sweet smelling Nailtiques Nail Moisturiser with jojoba and aloe rehydrates my toenails, and later a lick of polish makes them worthy of public appearances. But don’t forget to apply a basecoat of Essie First Base Coat, especially with the gorgeous ruby reds and chocolate colours such as Essie Thigh High, which are hot this autumn. Otherwise you’re looking at stained toenails. Not attractive.

    Top tootsie tip

When I’m short on time, a quick massage with Essie Ylang Ylang Leg & Foot Massage Oil nourishes my tired skin and aids the circulation in my legs and feet. You only need a drop about the size of a ten pence piece on each leg and foot for the sweet smelling coconut, ylang ylang and jojoba to work their magic. OMG, I can’t tell you how good it feels after a long day at the salon or a night on the dance floor. Bliss.
