  • It's Official - Summer is over!

Get gorgeous glowing skin ready for Autumn.  So why don’t you make dry and chapped skin a thing of the past. Check out these top 10 tips for winter skin care:

    Autumn

    1. Hydration is key!

Yes, I’m sure you’ve heard us baffle on about the importance of drinking plenty of water. But it really works! Especially when wanting to keep your skin hydrated during those tough upcoming winter months. Knock back around 6 glasses a day and see what wonders it does to your skin.

    1. Moisturise!

Up your moisturising game. Swap your summer water-based moisturiser for an oil-based one! The oil will act as a protective layer against those sometimes-harsh wintery conditions. However, choose your oils wisely. Make sure you look for ‘non-clogging’ natural oils such as avocado oil or almond oil.

    1. Eat a ‘skin-friendly’ diet

It’s not only beauty products that can help to enhance your skin. You can reap the benefits through what you eat as well. Try to include foods with nutritious fatty acids such as almonds, salmon and tuna in to your daily diet.

    1. Still slap on the SPF!

Sun cream isn’t just for summer! Winter Sun is just as powerful and you’ll still need to protect your skin. Apply sun cream around 30 minutes before you leave the house.

    1. Love your hands

Your hands can often take the brunt of the winter’s conditions; leaving them icy cold, dry and chapped. Find yourself a good moisturising hand cream and apply regularly. Also remember your gloves on a cold day, keep those mits warm!

    1. Treat your feet

Out of sight, out of mind? NO, remember to still treat your feet! A stronger foot lotion may be called for, but it is crucial to look after them. Exfoliate any dry and dead skin off before applying lotion for some seriously smooth feet.

    1. Skip using drying soaps

Some soaps are renowned for drying out the skin, so avoid these at all costs! Switch this with a creamy moisturising cleanser to seal in some of that goodness.  Try looking for cleansers that include glycerine or petrolatum.

    1. Every Now and Then, Exfoliate

Although winter does bring along dryer skin with it. Don’t go over board with the daily exfoliation. Opt for a less abrasive, gentle buffing weekly exfoliation routine. This will allow your skin to retain its moisture and brighten the surface.

    1. Luscious Lips

This is an essential! Nobody likes having sore and chapped lips. Make sure you always have lip balm to hand. Indulge in a high quality healing and moisturising one

    1. Cool it down

I know there’s nothing better than the thought of a long hot bath on an icy winters day. But these won’t do any favours for your skin.  Hot temperatures strip away the moisture in your skin. Having shorter and cooler baths (or showers) can help restore this!

  • 10 things you need this Autumn

The winter months are approaching and over the last week we have already seen the temperature drop sad face

Its time to say goodbye to the bright pastel colours and summery trends, and time to say hello to autumn!

In order to prepare you, I’ve made a list of the top ten things you will need:

    1. Wine-red lipstick
Deep red colours are in this season and look super chic with autumn fashion colours like browns and blacks.
    2. Grey eye shadow
Trust me – grey is in! Instead of a black smoky eye, try using grey and silver colours. It adds sophistication. Plus it looks amazing with autumn dark colours and deep red lipstick!
    3. Metallic nail polish
I heart metallic! This autumn, metallic colours are fast becoming the go-to colour for any outfit. Metallic nail varnish will add a little jazz to any outfit.I just put on Essie’s Jag-U-Are. It’s a red metallic colour and looks gorgeous!

    4. Matte foundation
Instead of shiny foundation (which nobody particularly loves) matte is back. Matte foundation is easily build-able for coverage and controls shine throughout the day while evening the skin tone.
    5. SPF
Just because the sun is gone doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still protect your skin! Use products with SPF in or just put a tiny bit of sun cream on underneath your foundation. Your skin will thank you for it in years to come – I promise! On holiday all I used is Ambre Solaire's BB cream as its acts as both a tinted moisturiser and sun cream. Plus it evens out my skin tone - a true all in one!

    6. Felt eyeliner
I recently switched from pencil to felt and it changed my life! I am now officially obsessed. Felt eyeliner is super easy to apply and lasts for hours. Its also smudge free – what more could you ask for?!
    7. Brow shadow
Since Cara Delevinge hit the scene, brows have been the in thing, but even more so this autumn. Make sure you define your natural brows with shadow that’s the closet shadow to your hair colour. Ensure you don’t go super crazy and paint your brows on, that is not hot!
    8. Thickening mascara
Fake lashes are for summer. This autumn you don’t want to be flapping around with glue and lashes. Get a thickening mascara and see the difference – much more natural and stylish.
    9. Hydrating Moisturiser
Looking after skin is never a seasonal thing  - you should be doing this year round! But even more so now that the weather is changing, you need to keep your skin hydrating at all timesTry using Thalgo's Source Hydra-Marine 24h cream, its to die for!

    10. A Fringe
A heavy eyelash-grazing fringe is huge this autumn. If you have had a fringe before – get it back! If you haven’t had one, why not try it? Consult your hair stylist and see what they think? I have done loads in the salon in the last few weeks!
  • Bare is Beautiful

We all want to look good this summer and the best way to do this is to wear as little make up as possible. It may sound crazy to ditch most of your make-up but below are some tips on how to look natural and flawless.

Step 1: First, apply sun cream to protect your skin or  moisturiser with UVA protection to protect your skin from the sun. Then apply a creamy golden mineral powder to combat the oil and a bronzer for a sun-kissed look. When applying bronzer, concentrate on your cheekbones, middle of forehead, bridge of nose and chin.

Step 2: Brush a light layer of shimmery eye shadow across your lids, because again, we want to create a more natural look. I usually add some lighter eye shadow in the corner of my eyes to enhance them.

Step 3: To finish this look add a natural-looking lip-gloss of peach or light pink. I don’t usually add mascara to my eyes when creating this look as it makes it more natural to leave it out however you can do if you want, as either way it looks amazing.

    Summer makeup

Although this look is great for going out in the summer, it doesn’t suit everyone. Some people prefer to have a heavier approach so below is another example of how to get that gorgeous summer look:

Step 1: Apply sun cream before anything else, to protect against the sun or instead use a moisturiser with UVA protection.

Step 2: Then apply concealer to the dark patches under your eyes, spots and blemishes. If you are not completely comfortable with abandoning your foundation altogether then use a tinted moisturiser as this will even out your skin tone and feel lighter than a heavy foundation.

Step 3: To add to this, brush a thin layer of bronzer with a slight shimmer or pink undertone to your cheeks, across the bridge of your nose and on your temples to give your face a sun kissed look.

Step 4: To keep this look natural I use a simple light pink lipstick, as it will make your lips stand out a little more but doesn’t go over the top.

Step 5: If you would like to add eye shadow than a deep copper colour will give you a shimmery look that will look amazing in the sun.

Step 6: Although trying to remain natural, most women won’t go without mascara, so my tip is; if you’re trying to maintain a natural look whilst wearing it, make sure it is not clumpy mascara that clings to your lashes like glue. Buy a thinner mascara, possibly a brown one, as this will look more natural.
