  • Rock The Weekend - The Lipstick Commandments

We know some of you have had trouble on our facebook and twitter this week viewing this great infographic so we thought we would make things easier and blog it for you instead!

    • Start with a clean lip.

Gently exfoliate any dry skin by lightly rubbing your lips with a damp washcloth

    • Know Your Formulas

Matte can be long-lasting, but may dry your lips out. Creamy formulas are hydrating, but may not last as long, and longwearing formulas are more comfortable than they used to be. Experiment!

    • To Intensify A Colour, Wear A Lip Pencil

Lining your lips neutralises their natural pinkness so the lipstick will be more opaque and closer to the colour in the tube.

    • A Brush Will Help Lipstick Last Longer

Take the extra time to apply it with a brush in the morning or before a night on the town.

    • Blot The Right Way

Blot in between applications by gently pressing a tissue to your lips. Don't put the tissue in between lips and press down because that will make your lipstick wear off unevenly.

    • Don't Get Lipstick On Your Teeth

Put your index finger in your mouth and gently close your lips around it then pull it out. This will take off the lipstick from the inside of your lips so it won't wind up on your teeth.

    • A Dab Of Highlighter Will Enhance Your Cupid's Bow

The light reflecting particles will help draw attention to this pretty part of your mouth. You could also use a creamy concealer in the same spot to help define your lips.

    • Top With Gloss

The shine will help make your pout look even plumper. If you don't like the sticky feeling, just use a small drop in the middle of bottom lip for a similar effect.

    • Don't Be Afraid To Go Nude

The most flattering nude lipstick is one shade deeper than your skin tone. Fair-skinned ladies should try a hue with a hint of pink and those with olive or dark skin will want to reach for a sandy beige.

    • There Really Is A Red For Everyone

To find the best hue for you, follow these guidelines: fair skin looks best with a blue-red hue, olive skin is flattered by an orange-red and dark skin looks best with a burgundy red.

So there you have it! As always we'd love to hear how you get on with these tips but more importantly are there any tricks you use? Let us know!

  • Celeb Style - Jessica Ennis

It's been a fantastic week for Team GB and to celebrate we're taking a sneak peek into the style of one of our favourite female athletes, Jessica Ennis.

    Jessica Ennise Team GB

When you train as hard as Jess does (last time we checked being the best at 7 events was pretty hard!) there's little time for make-up or hair care so you need to get the basics right. Drinking plenty of water will keep skin looking fresh from the inside out but on days when you need a bit of help try using a BB cream, like this from Garnier. With SPF15 and a light colour this wonder product can have you glowing in no time.

She might be a badass on the athletics field but every girl likes to get glam! Jess looked stunning on the cover of Cosmopolitan last month and at the Sports Personality of the Year 2011 she turned the volume up with this dramatic smokey eye.

To recreate this look at home choose your colour palette - Jess has gone navy/dark blue but purples look great on brown or green eyes too. Blue eyes try using traditional black to make them really pop! Use the lighter colour on the inside of the eye and blend out the darker shade on the outer corner as high as you dare go!

The key to any smokey eye look is eyeliner and mascara - use a gel eyeliner like Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama to sharpen up the look and define the eye. Easier to use than liquid eyeliner AND stays put on the waterline longer than pencil.

Finish off with a volume boosting mascara - our current favourite is the waterproof Volume Million Lashes from L'Oreal Paris. Two coats of this and you're good to last the night!

We'd love to see how you get on with Jess' look this weekend - so tweet us your photos @thesalonlook or post them on our Facebook page.

    Happy Weekend!
