Beach Feet!

Summer is here and it is time to ditch our winter boots and clumpy trainers for flip-flops and sandals. When wearing my flip-flops the other day I realised just how bad my feet were, and how badly they needed a pedicure.

Follow my top tips below for the perfect at-home pedicure - super easy and fun!

You will need:

  • A basin or tub
  • Bath salts
  • Nail clippers, nail file and cuticle stick
  • Pumice stone or a foot file
  • Nail polish - a top & base coat and overall colour
  • Cotton buds (to clean up the excess nail polish)
  • Foot cream
  • Nail varnish remover and cotton pads
  • Towels
  • Cuticle oil (If you have damaged cuticles, this will help aid them and should improve the look of your pedicure)

Start by removing previous nail varnish using nail varnish remover and cotton pads, as it is best to do this before any of the other steps.

Next, remove dead skin using a sturdy foot file. I tend to do this when my feet are dry rather than wet, as my feet has lots of dry skin and I find it works better.

Now fill your basin/tub with warm water and add bath salts (I normally use Essie Spa Marine Sea Salts as it is great for soothing skin and works wonders for my feet.) You can soak your feet for along as you like, I personally soak them for at least 5-10 minutes or longer depending on how bad my feet are.

Using the towel, gently dry your feet and rub moisturising lotion into your feet. Then cut your nails using nail clippers, I find that these are more effective than using scissors. Then carefully push down your cuticles using a cuticle stick and apply cuticle oil if needed. If you apply cuticle oil, you must wait about 10 minutes before painting your nails other it won't work as effectively.

Follow by filing your nails to give them shape and then add a clear base coat, this helps strengthen them and makes your nail varnish last longer.

Choose a nail varnish of your choice. The must have nail varnish colours for summer this year are:

  • Teal
  • Cotton candy pink
  • Deep blue
  • Bright orange
  • Creamy tomato red
  • Coral

Once the 1st coat of nail polish is dry, add a second coat to give a long lasting effect. Then finish with a top coat, it gives it that shiny professional look. Lastly, use cotton buds dipped in nail polish remover to neaten up the excess nail polish from around your nails.

Ta-da! Picture perfect beach feet!

xoxo
