How to Make Your Glowing Tan Last

It is mid-May and we have been blessed with glorious weather so far this summer. After a scorching weekend and perfect tanning conditions, lots of you are asking how to keep your tan glowing….

1. Cool Showers

Hot baths and showers can dehydrate your skin after a day in the sun which will speed up peeling - something everyone hates! Stick with cool showers and use a moisturising body wash!

Try Thalgo Marine Shower Gel, it leaves you feeling fresh and reenergised. This shower gel moisturises and can be used on the most sensitive of skin types. The chrondus crispus softens your entire body leaving you with silky smooth skin.

2. Exfoliate

Contrary to belief, exfoliating is actually one of the best ways to keep your tan as it removes the dead skin cells which would peel off your body and unearths the fresh skin, enhancing the natural glow to your skin. Exfoliating will prevent the tan from looking streaky and splotchy and it gives your skin a more even skin tone.

Thalgo Exotic Island Body Scrub is a great product to help keep your skin fresh and clear, as exfoliating unblocks the pores which creates a rough finish to your skin and leaves it refreshed and clean. Removing the dead skin cells actually speeds up the renewal process, leaving it looking healthier and smoother.

Rub in a circular motion in order to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, getting the circulation going in your body. This motion also prevents cellulite as it breaks down pockets of fluid retention in the body, so your bum and legs can look even more glorious with your glowing tan.

3. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

We are all aware that sun bathing creates skin damage, encouraging the ageing process as skin damage causes skin discolouration and ages delicate skin. Dermatologists are anti-sun bathers but of course most of us love to be out in the sun. If you are an annual sunbather why not create a part real- part fake tan by getting your base tan out in the sun and top up with an everyday gradual tan. This way you get the best of both, as your are able to sunbathe, while the gradual tan ensures you stop damaging your skin and no one will know that it is fake.

St Tropez have a great range of gradual tan products in a variety of shades to avoid looking far too dark compared to your natural colour.  I recommend using St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan Body which will keep your tan looking natural and streak free. Also apply the St Tropez Everyday Gradual Face to give your face the matching golden glow as your body. Both these products are body moisturisers, so essentially by applying these products you are just moisturising your skin while ensuring your natural tan lasts with a little extra help.

St Tropez is renown for not going streaky or orange and don’t worry, even applying it once a day won’t go too dark. This is where exfoliation is an essential process when using gradual tan products, it ensures that old dead skin cells are removed therefore prevent build up of the gradual tan which would create an uneven look.

The best way to keep your tan isn’t just due to what you put on your body, but what you consume too. The Only Way is Essex star Bobbie Morris, conducted a carrot diet experiment to see if he could tan by juicing lots of carrots. The answer was positive as by eating foods which are high in beta- carotenes such as; sweet potato, mangoes, apricots and especially carrots can recreate the glow of sun kissed skin from within. Drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated in the heat and will help prolong the life of skin cells too.

So there you have it, prolong that fab tan and get glowing skin in no time!
