  • 10 steps to the perfect at home pedicure

We’ve all been there. You’ve kept your feet covered up in the winter months, applied the occasional coat of polish on your toes, only to be faced with the flip flop fear. It’s a sunny day, perfect flip-flop weather, but your toes just aren’t up to scratch. Don’t stress, follow these 10 easy steps to get you feet in to tip top condition.

Step 1. Make sure you buff your feet when dry, not wet. This will help to really shift the dead skin. Use a sturdy foot file and focus on the heels, balls of feet and edges of toes.

Step 2. Fill a bowl with warm water and add a reviving foot soak, such as Essie Spa Marine Sea Salts 56g. Soak your feet for 10 minutes as this with help to soothe and soften your skin.

Step 3. Using a foot scrub, massage your feet to get rid of the last dregs of dead skin, then rinse. I love Essie Spa Sea Mineral Glow 56g

Step 4. Apply a foot masque. Wrap your feet in cling film, followed by a warm towel and relax for 10 minutes, then rinse. My favourite is Essie Spa Hydro-Masque.

Step 5. Dry your feet thoroughly (even between your toes) and gently ease back your cuticles with a cuticle stick.

Step 6. Cut your nails straight across with nail clippers. Make lots of little snips, rather than all at once, or you might break your nail. Top tip: It’s important not to create a round shape to your toenails as this can lead to an ingrown nail.

Step 7. Massage your feet with a rich foot lotion to lock in the moisture. I usually opt for Nailtiques Avocado Foot Cream. It smells amazing and leaves your feel feeling silky smooth.

Step 8. For the ultimate treat, apply foot lotion before bedtime, wrap them in cling film as before, then add some socks and hop into bed. Essie Spa Kirby Cream is perfect for this

Step 9. If you want to add some colour, wipe off the foot lotion from your nails using a damp cotton wool pad. Then add your base coat, two layers of polish and a high-shine topcoat.

Step 10. Cuticle oil is key to maintaining healthy nails. Use a roll on variety for ease and to keep any mess to a minimum. Try Nailtiques Cuticle Oil Roll-On.

So give these steps a try and say goodbye to flip flop fear for good.

  • 10 things you need this Autumn

The winter months are approaching and over the last week we have already seen the temperature drop sad face

Its time to say goodbye to the bright pastel colours and summery trends, and time to say hello to autumn!

In order to prepare you, I’ve made a list of the top ten things you will need:

    1. Wine-red lipstick
Deep red colours are in this season and look super chic with autumn fashion colours like browns and blacks.
    2. Grey eye shadow
Trust me – grey is in! Instead of a black smoky eye, try using grey and silver colours. It adds sophistication. Plus it looks amazing with autumn dark colours and deep red lipstick!
    3. Metallic nail polish
I heart metallic! This autumn, metallic colours are fast becoming the go-to colour for any outfit. Metallic nail varnish will add a little jazz to any outfit.I just put on Essie’s Jag-U-Are. It’s a red metallic colour and looks gorgeous!

    4. Matte foundation
Instead of shiny foundation (which nobody particularly loves) matte is back. Matte foundation is easily build-able for coverage and controls shine throughout the day while evening the skin tone.
    5. SPF
Just because the sun is gone doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still protect your skin! Use products with SPF in or just put a tiny bit of sun cream on underneath your foundation. Your skin will thank you for it in years to come – I promise! On holiday all I used is Ambre Solaire's BB cream as its acts as both a tinted moisturiser and sun cream. Plus it evens out my skin tone - a true all in one!

    6. Felt eyeliner
I recently switched from pencil to felt and it changed my life! I am now officially obsessed. Felt eyeliner is super easy to apply and lasts for hours. Its also smudge free – what more could you ask for?!
    7. Brow shadow
Since Cara Delevinge hit the scene, brows have been the in thing, but even more so this autumn. Make sure you define your natural brows with shadow that’s the closet shadow to your hair colour. Ensure you don’t go super crazy and paint your brows on, that is not hot!
    8. Thickening mascara
Fake lashes are for summer. This autumn you don’t want to be flapping around with glue and lashes. Get a thickening mascara and see the difference – much more natural and stylish.
    9. Hydrating Moisturiser
Looking after skin is never a seasonal thing  - you should be doing this year round! But even more so now that the weather is changing, you need to keep your skin hydrating at all timesTry using Thalgo's Source Hydra-Marine 24h cream, its to die for!

    10. A Fringe
A heavy eyelash-grazing fringe is huge this autumn. If you have had a fringe before – get it back! If you haven’t had one, why not try it? Consult your hair stylist and see what they think? I have done loads in the salon in the last few weeks!
  • Splash some colour into Autumn with the latest nail trends

It’s November, time to leave behind plain colour block nails and catch up with the latest nail trends. This season it’s all about having super groomed, shiny, healthy nails. Once you’ve mastered that, it’s all about the nail art. Personally, I love it. It looks fab and chic regardless of what colour you decide to originally put on your nails.

    Autumn Nail Trends

Before experimenting with nail art, you need to first clean your nails properly and shape them. Start by taking off any old polish with a nail varnish remover that moisturises your cuticles and nails. Try Nailtiques Polish Remover. It keeps your nails in tiptop condition ready for your next fabulous colour.

Then file your nails to any shape you want – square or round.

Give your nails a pre-Christmas glow

After shaping your nails, give them the nutrients that they need! A lot of people miss this part out and put nail varnish on straight away, but it really does help your nails. Try using a gel or hand conditioner. It will instantly hydrate and condition both your nails and cuticles.

Try using Nailtiques Cuticle and Skin Gel. It acts immediately on cuticles and penetrates deep into the skin. (Top tip: it’s also fantastic for cracked cuticles or rough skin; you can also use this on dry skin on your elbows.)

Or you could try Nailtiques Hand Conditioner. Pushing back your cuticles with your fingertips, while massaging until completely absorbed. It instantly rehydrates and conditions both your hands and nails.

    Colour time

Once you have pampered your hands, choose your colour. This season, darker shades are in to add more of an ‘oomph’. Darker shades are also better if you want to try nail art.

At the moment, I love Essie’s Thigh High colour. The shape is delicious and looks fabulous on. Make sure you put two coats on and finish with a topcoat for extra chip resistance.

    You’ll fall ‘Matte-ly’ in love…

Sometimes a girl doesn’t want a high shine finish on her nails, and when that happens you HAVE to try Essie Matte About You.

It transforms your nails from super shiny to a super matte finish. Bang on trend!

    Fashionable fingertips…

After you have picked your colour, why not decorate your nails some more? There are lots of nail art stencils and press ons out at the moment. Below are some examples that I know I’m going to try! Try using nail pens and stick on sequins for the fabulous effect.
